“You would live a better life

if you kept death on your mind.”

I believe I heard those words on my local public radio’s broadcast of Terry Gross’s Fresh Air.  I can’t tell you who the guest was – I even looked at the website to jog my memory.  I can only tell you that I was driving at the time and that maybe – considering my frantic hunt for pen and paper – there should be a law that prohibits us from keeping writing materials in the vehicle…

Today I’m going to remember that everything is temporary.  An illusion.  Even this life I hold with my beating heart and my breathing lungs.  The knowledge that my life will end is going to inform the choices I make.
